Tour Details

The singularly unique landscape of the San Andreas Fault Zone is on display in this exciting Jeep tour through the California desert. This eco-tour takes you through box and slit canyons, a pristine desert oasis, and a guided tour of the plant and animal life that survive in this beautiful and unforgiving terrain. Get ready to ride into an unforgettable experience.

Your San Andreas Fault tour departs from Cocoís Restaurant in Palm Springs (or at your hotel if arranged prior to the Jeep tour), and shuttles you to an 840 acre preserve along the San Andreas Fault. Tour the fault line, where you will learn about native desert plants, animals, history, and geology. Wind your way through a natural palm oasis, ancient fossil beds, and breathtaking canyons, a maze of natural beauty for which the San Andreas Fault Zone is known. Discover the desertís rich history at the Cahuilla Indian Village, and learn how these native people utilized the limited resources of the region in order to thrive. Experience the life of a 19th century gold miner or land prospector as you roam through the desert guided by a naturalist expert. With the sun sinking in the West, youíll witness the awe-inspiring transition from day to night in the desert. Youíll want your camera handy to capture a sky streaked with a complex palette of colors, the play of light and shadow among the hills and canyons, and a desert painted in extraordinary hues of red, orange, and blue.

The San Andreas Fault tour is fully escorted and narrated by an expert naturalist guide. Based on the physical abilities of the guests, the guide will lead you on a nature walk through the fault zone and the surrounding desert, and will teach you about the astounding history and legends of this extraordinary ecosystem. Any guests who have neck, back, or serious health conditions, and women who are pregnant, are strongly advised to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any Jeep tour. Donít forget to wear closed-toe shoes or hiking boots with rubber soles, and to bring hats and sunscreen. Comfortable clothing is a must, and itís recommended that you dress in layers as temperature fluctuations in the desert can be pronounced and can happen quickly. And, of course, donít forget your camera in order to capture all the natural beauty youíll discover on this exciting eco-adventure.
