Lightweight summer clothing is suitable for most of the year, but sweaters or jackets may be needed for the winter months, especially in the evenings. Good quality sunglasses are advised, and photo-chromatic lenses for those who wear spectacles. Hats or some protection for the head are advisable when in direct sunlight. The United Arab Emirates have conservative dress traditions. Swimwear must be confined to the beach and hotel pools. If you plan on swimming in the ocean, please bring your swimwear with you. Men and women should ensure shoulders and knees are covered when in public, especially in souks, shops, and villages. As you will be visiting a religious site, men and women should wear loose long trousers or long skirts, and long sleeves to ankle or wrist. Shorts and tight or transparent clothing is not permitted. Women must cover their head with a scarf while at the mosque. Also, all visible tattoos must be covered.
