This is a tour unlike any other. "Hop" from the island of Oahu on a short 45-minute flight to spend the day exploring the unique geography of Hawaii’s “Big Island”. A visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park will inform you about the seismic activity that’s been a constant on the Big Island and the culture that sprang up around it. You’ll see Mauna Loa, the world’s largest active volcano, and Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano. You’ll also see other dormant volcanoes, lava beds, steam vents, and craters while discovering the legends meant to explain these natural phenomena.
While those two volcanoes are the major highlights on this tour, there are plenty of other sights to pique your interest, such as Thurston Lava Tube and Jaggar Museum. The lava tube, discovered by Lorrin Thurston in 1913, was formed from the hardened surface of previous lava flows; it’s a favorite spot for birds to feed on nearby blossoms. Jaggar Museum will help put all of this vast volcanic landscape in context with its displays of seismographs and other exhibits to teach you about Hawaii’s unique geography. You'll also visit the Rainbow Falls State Park, a black sand beach, and a macadamia nut factory.
While there is no guarantee of a red-hot lava flow sighting, you may see a smoldering crater or a steam vent. By the tour’s end you’ll know exactly how and why volcanoes occur. You’ll also have the opportunity to take in some unique scenery along the way.
Please Note: This tour is non-refundable and cannot be changed in any way once your order has been placed. All guests must bring a valid ID for airport security check-in. International guests must bring a valid passport for airport security check-in. Smoking is not permitted in the National Park. Please be assured that both Hilo and Kona remain largely unaffected by the current eruption of Kilauea volcano and that it is still safe to travel to the Big Island of Hawaii (Hawaii Island). The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is currently closed, however, this tour will continue to operate with a modified itinerary until the park has reopened. The modified itinerary includes: Richardson’s Black Sand Beach, Liliuokalani Gardens, King Kamehameha Statue, Akaka Falls, Imiloa Astronomy Center – lunch on your own, Downtown Hilo, Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory, Rainbow Falls, and Prince Kuhio Plaza.
