Enjoy a day in the Irish countryside as you meet locals and visit historic castles and beautiful cathedrals on the Cork and Blarney tour.
Begin your journey as you depart from Dublin and head out into the wilderness. Pass by the The Curragh in County Kildare, a common place for horse breeding. You will see the Knockmealdown Mountains, made famous by the love ballad, "Kitty Borne O'Brien." Further down, you will pass by the Galtee Mountains, a region known for its cheese production. You might also witness a game of the heavy sport of hurling.
The first stop on your Dublin day trip is at Rock of Cashel, where you will see the beautiful Celtic Cathedral. This 13th century building contains some of the oldest preserved Romanesque wall paintings in the world.
The next stop is Blarney Castle, where you will have a chance to kiss the world famous Blarney Stone. Irish tradition entails that you must bend backwards and kiss the stone upside - down. Don't worry, it doesn't require as much flexibility as it seems. After your kiss, you will be able to walk along the wooded trails referred to as "Rock Close." You will see many unique rock formations, some of which date back to prehistoric eras. At this point, you will get a chance to have a lunch break and take in the scenery.
After your lunch break, your next and last stop is Cahair Castle, which was once the stronghold of the powerful Butler family. The castle retains its impressive keep, tower and much of its original defensive structure. It is one of Ireland's largest and best preserved castles and is situated on a rocky island on the River Suir. From there, you will head back to Dublin to conclude your Cork and Blarney Tour.
Your trip will be guided by a friendly and knowledgeable guide. He will ensure that you have a memorable experience and will provide you with endless information about each of the places you visit on this outing.
